Facial contrast
- Reads older when
- Eyes, brows and lips close in tone to the skin around them read older; raising that contrast reverses the read.
- Can you change it today?
- Colour, hair depth, blush and lip colour can raise it.

How old do you look? The age guesser names the three things in the photo doing the talking.

The reading
“How old do I look?” gets a band, not a point: your answer lands on this rule with the three things in the photo that put it there, and the move that shifts each one.
The ledger
Every “how old do I look” tool on the internet hands back a number and stops. A reason is more useful than a verdict. So this age guesser keeps the number and adds the ledger: facial contrast, skin evenness, shadow and collar colour, each measured from your pixels with a move you can test. Shadow and collar colour are the two an age guesser is most often fooled by.
A retake
The experiment
People run an age guesser once and stop. Run it three times instead: the model has no memory, only pixels. Change the collar or light while keeping your face still, and the result shows that colour and light shape how old you look.
The comparison tray under every age guesser result keeps the last six reads on your device, tagged with whatever you changed, and marks the youngest.
Face a window, phone at eye level, hair off the face, no filter. Tag this clean baseline before comparing anything.
Keep the spot and light. Try black, optic white, then a clear mid-tone; tag each and run the age guesser again.
Try hair up, down or glasses off. Preview a shade on the hair colour changer, then run the age guesser again.
Accuracy, honestly
The network comes from face-api and traces back to DEX, winner of the 2015 ChaLearn apparent age challenge. A benchmark win does not mean it knows how old you are: on a phone selfie, small public models miss by about 4 years either way. A 2023 evaluation also found that crop, alignment and light can matter more than the model chosen.
So the age guesser shows the read as a range, widening it for hard shadows, uneven light, children and older adults. A competitor’s “accurate to ±3 years” is a benchmark figure, not a promise about your mirror. Two more things this age guesser will not do: the gender guess the network also produces is deliberately not shown, and ethnicity is never inferred, though the training crawl behind nearly every public model over-represents lighter-skinned, professionally photographed adults.
The colour half
A colour can lift the face or drain it. Draining shades flatten contrast between features and skin, then cast into shadows; an age guesser reads both as years. Test these common offenders and their easier replacements in the same light.

Usually give them back
Your best swap depends on your season. Free AI colour analysis finds it, while the soft summer and dark winter guides show why the same neutral behaves differently. Run the age guesser before and after the swap; the tray will settle the argument.
Nothing leaves your phone
Most age guesser sites upload your selfie and promise to delete it later. This AI age guesser makes a different promise: MediaPipe and a TensorFlow.js model execute inside your tab. After the first load, turn off your connection and the age guesser still works.
The tray keeps numbers, your tag and a 96-pixel thumbnail in local storage; remove any read from its card. If you sign in, your account saves only the numbers and tag, never the image, so you can compare later on your results page.
Where the age guesser stops
Change one variable at a time to learn from a model with no memory. The age guesser measures and points; its related tools make the change on the same photo.

Collar

Proportion

Everything
Combine shape, balance, apparent years and skin tone.
Before you trust the number
Small public models miss by roughly 4 years on an ordinary selfie, and by more on children, older adults and hard-lit photos. That is why this age guesser shows a range. It estimates apparent age (how old the face reads), not chronological age.
No. The age guesser runs on-device, so there is no upload. The comparison tray stores only numbers, your tag and a 96-pixel thumbnail in your browser. Saving a read to your account keeps the numbers and tag, never the image. The only upload on the page is opt-in: the makeup render under a read sends a small square of the photo to our image model once, when you tap it, and does not keep it.
The model reads pixels. Overhead light deepens shadows; a dark top shadows the jaw; a white top bleaches skin detail; and a phone held low widens the jaw. Change one and the read moves. That is exactly why the tray exists.
Yes, with one rule: it reads the largest face and tells you how many it found. If you want everyone's read, crop each person out and run them one at a time — the tray will keep them side by side.
Yes. Take a photo in even window light, run the age guesser, then change only the top, hair or light. The AI hair colour changer and the draping tool preview those changes on the same photo before you make them in real life.
